Good News - The fish cleaning station is almost complete!! The gazebo will be finished with paint and the grinder needs to be moved in. You can view the pictures of the process in our picture gallery

The Sanitary Fish Cleaning Station is a stainless steel cleaning table with attached water hoses and commercial grinder to grind up the fish entrails and dispose them into the county sanitary sewer system. This will be placed at Marsh’s Landing which is located on the north side of Valhalla Island. This landing is very busy and a heavily used fishing located due to its close proximity to the Valhalla Island campground.  Currently, fish entrails are placed in trash cans and into an older style cleaning station located within the campground. The station dumps into a pit that this only pumped a few times per summer. We feel strongly that the new system would be the sanitary and proper way to handle the fish cleaning needs.  Projected cost for the station complete with gazebo housing, concrete and electrical wiring is $20,000.  Additional stations at other locations may be considered as the need arises.

Projected Projects include:

1)  Boat Landing Docks:  Several of the public access boat landings have minimal dockage causing slow loading/unloading of watercraft and subsequent lineups. We propose to install additional docks in an L-share pattern on each side of the landings. This will allow watercraft to be tied up out of the way of the landing allowing the next user clear access without the wait.  There are six public landings on Lake Shetek that could use this type of improvement. Projected cost to enhance all six of the locations is $12,000.

2) Aerators:  Aeration systems require maintenance and eventual replacement. A single aerator costs approximately $5,000.

If you have any suggestions of what you think could help improve the lake, please feel free to email us at lswalleyetourney@hotmail.com.

Previous projects include:

1) New aeration (bubbler) system in the south end of Lake Shetek (see photos).

2) New parts for the existing aeration system on the north end of Lake Shetek.

3) Marker buoys throughout the lake.

4)Previous monies raised were donated to the Cleanwater Partnership for upland treatment.
